Ibuprofen
Indications/Uses
Relief of fever associated w/ cold & flu, pain eg, teething, toothache, earache, sore throat, headache, minor aches & sprains, inflammation of muscles & joints.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 6 mth-12 yr Fever 0.25-0.5 mL/kg 4-6 hrly. Max: 40 mg/kg daily. Pain 2 mL/kg daily. Max dose for patient <30 kg: 20-25 mL daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other NSAIDs or aspirin. Peptic ulcer.
Special Precautions
Asthma, bronchospasm, bleeding disorder, HTN, cardiac impairment, SLE. Risk of GI ulceration, bleeding & perforation. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, headache, dizziness, nervousness, tinnitus, depression, drowsiness, insomnia.
Drug Interactions
Oral anticoagulants, lithium, MTX, cardiac glycosides, ACE inhibitors, β-blockers, diuretics, quinolones, phenytoin, sulfonylurea antidiabetics, corticosteroids.
